Reasons Why I Love Reading | Bookish Chit-Chat

I grew up with my nan and I’ve mentioned the massive book shelves in our living room, that eventually overflowed into my bedroom, very too often. For as long as I can remember my grandmother has always read books. Up until her eye sight got pretty bad, and even now she’s trying to read a bit using the magnifying glass.  She would forever gift me books and to this day she is still buying books that I end up bringing to the UK with me every time I visit her. She is the #1 person in the world to me and the #1 reason why I love reading.

Reading is a different experience for everyone, some love it, some hate it – some try to avoid it. When I was in school I HATED that we were told what books to read and when to read them. I wanted to do my own thing, and the compulsory books were, at the time, just so boring! I definitely appreciate reading more now than I have ever before.

It relaxes me and allows me to escape the reality of the day to day life. I absolutely love reading in complete silence. No TV, no radio, no phone, no people – just pure bliss. Being able to have my down time away from everyday hustle and bustle is very, very important to me. Letting the imagination take me to new places from the comfort of my own home (or where ever I end up reading at the time!), keeps me sane!

I love reading because it makes me happy; it teaches me and helps me forget how much I miss my family (even if it is only for a few hours at a time).

I love reading because it makes me feel like I’m at home anywhere I go; and I love reading because it connects me with new friends, be it fictional or within the book community. It’s beautiful!

Why do you/don’t you love reading? Let me know in the comments 🙂
