Hi friends, as one of my favourite memes say: “January was a tough year, but we made it!”, and what a fantastic month it has been and I am glad to bring you my January wrap-up! I am a few days late with posting this, but I was distracted by end of dry January and Back with the Ex on Netflix…(#sorrynotsorry!)
Here’s what I got up to in January 2019.
I managed to smash the TBR target, took part of a book swap and fed my book-hoarder habit.
I finished 6 books!
The Last Straw – Ed Duncan (an honest review)
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review, and to be fair I didn’t think it was bad at all. I gave it 3.5/5 with the biggest issue being the abrupt ending. I was very impressed by the authors world building abilities and dialogues between characters that did not feel forced.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! Truthfully I was a little scared that I might not, because how can you love every book you read by an author, right? If you haven’t read this one yet, I strongly suggest you do. It is A M A Z I N G! 6/5 stars speaks for itself.
The Woman in the Window – A.J. Finn
Another favourite of the month. The epic hype around this book (and a suggestion from a friend) made me pick up this book and frankly if you haven’t already, what are you waiting for? We’re all a little nosy when it comes to neighbours and the book is full of drama and twists which will make you turn the pages without a break until the end. 5*/5. Outstanding read!
When it comes to Eddie Flynn? *sighs and stares longingly to the distance* He is truly one and only. I love him so much. Read the book – its a 5/5!
My first encounter with Taylor’s book and i dig it. A solid 4/5 and I look forward to reading more books written by her in the future.
Red Bones – Ann Cleeves (full review to follow soon..)
I don’t know what it is with Ann’s books, but I struggle to get hooked from the beginning but by the end I’m glad I persevered. Whilst this is not my favourite of the Shetland series it was still a good 3.5 (nearly 4)/5 and I gained so much more respect for Sandy. He truly came out of his shell in this book. Perez was on top form, as always, and a few murders didn’t go a miss as usual. Worth picking up if you like a good “who-dunnit” where you won’t have a clue who the culprit is until the very last chapter.
I broke my book buying ban.
Again, a mixture of second hand charity book shop finds and Amazon purchases.

Overall, I am so pleased with January’s reading and blog progress! I will be posting my February TBR very shortly and it’s the first time I used by TBR Book Jar – honestly what a difference it made to the book selection! Keep your eyes peeled for February book pile!
