Quarterly Reading Stats & Update | 2021 | Q1

Morning friends. I’ve been meaning to get around to post my first quarterly reading update since.. well beginning of April. No idea where the time flew but we’re now well into July and I’m also due to bring you the reading update for the second quarter of the year! Sit tight, I will get the results out very shortly for the most recent stats too! Meanwhile, here’s what I got up to between January and March in 2021.

What did I read?

8 out of the 18 books I read between January – March 2021 were paperbacks, 5 were eBooks and 5 audio books.

Note: I also re-read Sleep by C.L Taylor, which isn’t included in some of the below graphs.

Who wrote the books I read?

The majority of the books I read in the first three months of 2021 were written by women. There are definitely more female authors on my shelves, so this doesn’t really surprise me too much.

I did however make a conscious decision to read more books by BAME authors this year. There are still plenty on my shelves patiently waiting for their turn, so hopefully by the end of the year the graph will show even more proportionate author diversity in the books I read.

Which genres did I read and what did I think?

The beginning of this year definitely saw me venture out of my comfort zone that is normally a thriller.

Although I still read a lot of thrillers, the majority of the books I read between January and March were actually novels/sagas/young adult books.

The change in the books I read was a welcome change and really kept me reading. I grew a bit tired of the predictable thrillers, so having something really quite different was something I embraced thoroughly.

It’s so great to see such a good start to the year – I rated most of the books I read in the first quarter 4 stars or over. This just shows that tipping your toes into something unknown isn’t actually that bad and you could be pleasantly surprised!

Here’s to more great books!

Top 3 – Favourite Books

January – Half a World Away by Mike Gayle

February – The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah

March – Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Do you remember how your first three months of 2021 went? Did you get up to much? Did you discover new favourites?
