A nuclear star had fallen onto the earth, poisoning the land and water nearby, their catch, and the two fishermen themselves. They saw everything but realized nothing. They were the first but not the last to fail to grasp the reality.
When I read this quote, it gave me shivers. To imagine seeing something so unfathomable but not having any fear is just beyond me. I can’t even imagine the shock the witnesses must have gone through.
There is no one at all who would refuse work. Everyone is working selflessly.
Actually throughout this book, I was absolutely blown away by the selflessness of ordinary people and the selfishness of those “on top”.
Both sides had a stake in keeping it under wraps so as not to frighten their citizens and make them reject nuclear power as a source of cheap energy.
You know this angers me. So much!
The truth is, nothing like this has ever happened anywhere in the world. We were the first after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, though that was nothing to be proud of.
