It’s Thursday, and you know what that means! It’s time for another Thursday Quotables and today’s lines are hand picked from Chernobyl, History of a Tragedy by Serhii Plokhy. An incredibly well researched historical masterpiece, that just begs to be read.

Thursday Quotables is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written. Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines will be, and you’re invited to join in! Created by Lisa, over at Bookshelf Fantasies, and joined in by, well, me!

A nuclear star had fallen onto the earth, poisoning the land and water nearby, their catch, and the two fishermen themselves. They saw everything but realized nothing. They were the first but not the last to fail to grasp the reality.

When I read this quote, it gave me shivers. To imagine seeing something so unfathomable but not having any fear is just beyond me. I can’t even imagine the shock the witnesses must have gone through.

Actually throughout this book, I was absolutely blown away by the selflessness of ordinary people and the selfishness of those “on top”.

You know this angers me. So much!

The truth is, nothing like this has ever happened anywhere in the world. We were the first after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, though that was nothing to be proud of.

How old were you when Chernobyl tragedy happened? Were you not even born, like me? How much do you know about this accident? Lets chat!
