My copy of Snow in April by Rosamunde Pilcher is an Estonian translation called Aprillilumi. It’s one of the shortest books I’ve read so far this year, and to be completely honest the jury is still out. It’s one of those books I’d probably never have read if it hadn’t been on my nan’s bookshelf. I tend to pick a few books every time I go to visit and this was one of my choices in April.

My thoughts: Snow in April follows a young girl Caroline. She is shortly to be married with a rich guy set up by her stepmother. Before the wedding in London, Caroline hopes to find her long lost brother, who is said to be staying in Scotland. She decides to drive to Scotland the weekend before the wedding with her little brother Jody. The weathers is very different up north and in an unfortunate event Caroline crashes her car. To find shelter from the icy conditions, she and Jody seek help from the nearby cottage. The new owner Oliver, takes them in and.. “queue the romance”.
Now, let me be honest. I love a bit of romance in books. No, let me rephrase – I love romance in books. To see the journey from strangers to lovers is just so beautiful. I did like the idea of the story line a lot. However, because Snow in April is such a short book, the author didn’t really have time to develop the relationships and for me it was lacking real emotions. Everything moved too fast, there was very little time for the charters to get to know each other and believably fall on love.
The ending also felt rushed and I just wished it had more time to go into more detail.
