Book Review | Never Tell by Lisa Gardner

Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you to Lisa Gardner, Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC of Never Tell. I am extremely honored. Secondly, although Never Tell is the latest of Detective D.D Warren series, it would definitely be an outstanding standalone, too.

Blurb: One death might be an accident.
Two deaths looks like murder.
A man is shot dead in his own home, and his pregnant wife, Evie, is found with the gun in her hands.
Detective D.D. Warren instantly recognises her. Sixteen years ago, Evie also shot her own father. That killing was ruled an accident.
D.D. doesn’t believe in coincidences. But this case isn’t as open and shut as it first appears, and her job is to discover the truth.
Evie might be a victim.
Or she might be about to get away with murder again.

My mother smiles sadly. “You know what they say, dear: Be careful what you wish for.”

My thoughts: This is only the second book I’ve read from this author. I read Live to Tell a few months ago and became a fan straight away.

Like the aforementioned book, Never Tell follows three powerful women; this time alternating between D.D Warren, Flora and Evie. The narratives are easily differentiable from one-another and are really well thought out. I love the different view points of the characters that eventually get blurred into each-other for the finale.

Merry Christmas! P.S. All that remains of your life is a charred shell of collapsing wreckage.

Like the cover states – you can never tell what goes on behind closed doors. The unlikely friendships, ultimate betrayal and fiery culmination swallow you whole from the start; and the fast paced story-line keeps you turning the pages throughout the night into the early hours of the morning.

Because I guessed the villain (I really need to stop doing this!) I give it a 4 out of 5 stars; Rest assured a physical copy will be getting shelf space in my home library as soon as the paperback gets released!

Never Tell is out on the 21 February 2019, go pre-order your copy here!
