Blog Tour | The Night You Left – Emma Curtis

Hola everyone! Haven’t we just had the most amazing weather in the UK for the past week, or what!? Today, I am so excited to bring to you the review of The Night You Left by Emma Curtis as part of my stop on the Blog Tour and I truly cannot wait to hear what you guys thought about the book too!

I really enjoyed Emma Curtis’ When I Find You last year, check out the review here, and I knew as soon as I finished it that I need to get my hands on her other books straight away. I feel so privileged to be able to be included in this tour, so a massive thank you to Emma and Hannah for making it possible.

Blurb: When Grace’s fiance vanishes without a trace the night after proposing, her life is turned upside down. But has Nick walked out on her, or is he in danger?
As Grace desperately searches for answers, it soon becomes clear that Nick wasn’t the uncomplicated man she thought she knew. And when she uncovers a hidden tragedy from his childhood, she realizes an awful truth: that you can run from your past – but your secrets will always catch up with you…

My thoughts: So the story begins with our protagonist Grace realising that her fiance has not returned home from his late night walk. It’s very unlike him to disappear like this, and Grace is growing increasingly worried for him. Despite of the disappearance Grace is doing her best to lead a normal life whilst the investigation is ongoing. At the same time trying to find the truth herself, but also making sure her own secrets stay in the past where they belong.

The Night You Left is narrated by various view points, jumping between the past and the present in alternate chapters to build an incredibly believable and intriguing narrative that will keep you wanting for more and more and .. more. The changes between the characters are easy to follow, as Grace’s story is written in first person (my favourite style!) and the others are in third person.

I really enjoy the author’s writing style and find that her books are right up my street. It covers so much of what I like in a book- mystery, secrets, family drama, past trauma, jealousy, revenge to name a few. I was so engrossed with the story that I found myself thinking about the book even when I wasn’t reading it.

The Night You Left really kept me guessing throughout and the story developed in an enjoyable pace. I got to know the characters, and found that it was impossible to dislike any of the main ones. The dialogue between the characters did not feel forced and flowed nicely, making it a pleasure to read.

What really made me love the book is that I didn’t find out what really happened to Nick until the very end. You may have theories, you may think “you know what’s up”; but I was mislead and shocked when it came down to the big reveal.

An absolutely perfect summer read; and I’m not saying it because the book was gifted. I will definitely add it to my “read again” pile because Emma pulled me out of the biggest reading slump this year with this one!
